Jim Longley, Deputy Secretary, Department of Family and Community Services, launched ‘Our Parklands Home – the history of the Riverside Centre’, at a private function while visiting a new group home in Orange on 29 June, 2016.
Social historian, Marje Prior, was contracted to research and write the book which was published by her company, On The Stone.
The comprehensive history starts with the early years of the Orange Mental Hospital and ends with some of the Riverside residents moving into their new homes in Orange and Bathurst.
Mr Longley thanked the author for her dedication and compassion in writing a book which “beautifully captured moments in time that have been experienced by both residents of the centre and staff.'”
He complimented the author by saying it was an authentic book that was a good read and well received by all those involved with Riverside and the transition of residents into their new homes.
