In 2014, social historian, Marje Prior was contracted by the NSW government to research and write the history of the Riverside Centre as part of the closure of large residential centres in NSW. Riverside is located on the grounds of Bloomfield Hospital, Orange, in buildings and wards that were first constructed for the mental asylum.

In March, 2017, the centre will officially close ending more than 90 years of residential care for people with a disability who have spent most of their adult life in an institution. This comprehensive history starts with the early years of the Orange Mental Hospital and ends with some of the people who lived at Riverside moving into their new homes in Bathurst and Orange.

On The Stone published the book for Ageing, Disability and Home Care,  NSW Department of Family and Community Services.
