This book was made possible with the establishment of the Wallerawang Social History Group in 2006 when my company was contracted by Delta Electricity to publish a history book on Wallerawang Power Station for its 50th Anniversary.

It didn’t eventuate because Delta Electricity, a NSW Government-owned enterprise, considered the workers stories about asbestos could lead to future litigation. Sixteen years later their stories have finally been told.

Throughout these pages you will be introduced to some remarkable storytellers who were the pioneers of the early power stations, some working in hazardous conditions unimaginable today!

For the engineers and history buffs there are plenty of descriptions about the machinery and the technology used to build these large coal-fired power stations that powered the NSW electricity grid built by migrant workers in the 1950s.

But this book is primarily for the generations of workers who spent most of their lives working in these power stations, building unbreakable bonds of friendship and pride while contributing significantly to the economy of their local communities.
